Overall Goals of the Workshop:
1.
Community building: All the participants (students, teachers and bees)
have fun, are engaged as full people (emotional, intellectual, physical,
creative), and feel comfortable enough to engage in creative and
challenging activities.
2. Introduce students to the Beehive’s Mesoamerica Resiste!
graphic using storytelling and interactive exercises to explore the
economic, social, and political forces behind globalization and their
impact on culture, ecology, and communities in Mesoamerica. We will also
relate these themes to a North American context and discuss different
forms of resistance, including the use of art and education as acts of
resistance.
3.
Collaborative graphics making: Students will work in small groups to
design scenes telling stories about different aspects of their
community, and produce a final image that is part of a cohesive group
project.
4.
Storytelling: students practice using the image that they have created
for storytelling, performance, education, or a platform for discussion
in a presentation at the end of the three-day workshop.
